The hair protects these plants from the scorching sun and frosts of their native habitat. The old man of the Andes has a very interesting growth habit and is extremely slow growing. These larger plants are limited in availability. Makes a great container plant and can be planted outside in suitable climates. Tolerates cold to the mid twenties at night.
